Du, min dejligste ferieø 🎶
We have had a wonderful sailing trip to Bornholm today! Not only did we finally get to sail something else than upwind course – the waters were quite calm, the sun was out all the way and we had no issues crossing the big cargo ship channel. Désirée seemed to be enjoying the combination of half wind course and the calmer conditions and was gliding through the deep blue water with about 6 knots most of the time, often even a little more. So we had a lot of fun!
We had all built up this expectation, that the trip to Bornholm would be a bigger ‘crossing’. But with the speeds we made today, it only took us about 4 hours, which actually makes it the shortest sailing day we have had so far with Simone on board. So now we are relaxing in Hasle harbour after celebrating the good ride today by eating fries. I just went for a dip in the water, Simone is doing crosswords and Paul went to explore the city by bike. Later we will check out the sauna here at the harbour. Also, we are planning how to spend our days on Bornholm, what to see and where to sail. Let us know if you have secret tips!
Bornholm is so far truly living up to its danish nickname ‘sunshine island’, and we hope this great weather will stay as long as we are exploring the island. Fingers crossed!
I think we all needed a day like this, where sailing is just fun and you don’t feel like you’re battling the elements. We had a quite rough ride yesterday from Ystad to Skillinge – upwind all the time in quite awful 1m waves coming from the side. The trip even got Paul a little sea sick, although that usually never happens!
Simone caught this picture when leaving Skillinge harbour this morning, and I think it captions very well how we all felt when getting out of the harbour and seeing how different and friendly the sea looked today. So maybe on the bright side one could say, that after days like yesterday, days like today feel even better!
God vind and all the best from the happy sailors on board.
