Preparing for a fresh start

Welcome to our first real blog-post! Or, in other words, our first blog post that has been written by a natural form of intelligence instead of an artificial one (big credits to ChatGPT for writing the first posts that helped us set up this blog).

On this site, we would love to include and update anyone who could be intersted in our process of preparing ourselves and our boat Désirée for the adventures to come – a several month long trip up North, exploring the waters, coasts and people of Scandinavia. Our starting base is in Bogense, on the northern coast of the Danish island Fyn. Liv’s grandparents have had Désirée in this great harbour for the last many years, so this is a perfect place to start our projects.

On the 27th of February, Paul arrived in Denmark and we had the great pleasure of moving in to the beautiful house of Liv’s uncle and aunt, Claus and Ann-Dorthe, which is only a short drive from Bogense (thank you two a million times for your hospitality! <3). Since that day, most hours have been spent at the harbour in Bogense, where Désirée is currently on the dry. As we have been busy with the boat-work, we must admit that we have been neglecting this blog-project a little so far – but now we are ready to take you along for the ride and share more updates about the current work that is in progress.

The list of things we are working on and want to be working on soon is long and keeps growing as of right now – so don’t worry if you can’t keep track of the things we are working on, we are ourselves struggling a little with that task.

Before starting the ‘actual’ work, we decided to empty the boat as much as possible, which meant removing everything from inside the boat, including all the gear, cushions, cool hats, song books, kitchen equipment, sails, Crocs, etc. Clearing the boat out and organising its contents took us about two days. Once we could easily acces every part of the boat, we again spent about two days cleaning and getting familiar with every little corner of the boat – this is super important when taking a boat on a long trip! When you know every corner well, trouble shooting is a lot more easy to do!

Once we finished these preparatory tasks, Paul’s dad Matthias arrived from Germany to help us out for about 10 days – thank you so much for your support, hard work and knowledge-sharing, Matthias! More about the work that we have been doing in these 10 days will follow in our next post.

Other than preparing Désirée and getting comfy at Claus and Ann-Dorthe’s place, we of course have also been playing around with our new drone, been exploring the city and surroundings of Bogense, and most important of all – have become part of the Bogense harbour sauna community!

We are excited to share more from our preparations soon!

God vind!
Paul & Liv
